After the first prototype of Mingo in 2020, we realized there was something worth returning to. What began as a small hobby project was unexpectedly well received and even earned awards at several competitions. Years later, we decided to rebuild Mingo from the ground up — keeping its emotional core intact but with a stronger design and atmosphere.
Mingo is an atmospheric 2D platformer about a fragile character searching for lost friends in a collapsing world wrapped in fractures of time. What starts as a quiet fairy-tale gradually turns into a dark story about guilt, cycles, and the cost of moving forward. At the heart of the game lies the Echo Anchor mechanic — allowing the player to leave a mark in space and recall to it, shaping both puzzles and combat around this single concept.
Our goal during development is not only to tell Mingo’s story, but to create an experience where movement, failure, and persistence carry emotional weight. From the brief glide to the whispering time bubble, every mechanic is designed to express feeling through control. The game’s silence, minimal dialogue, and evolving tone mirror Mingo’s inner journey — from innocence to doubt, and ultimately, to collapse.
This new version is not a sequel, but a rebirth. It carries all the lessons and experiences from the 2020 prototype, yet now stands more focused, visually mature, and narratively deeper. As development progresses, we look forward to sharing more about its art direction, music, and the balance between precise platforming and quiet storytelling.
